my first house!
So here I am, living in Cape Verde in my very first home. Well, technically it is not mine. It belongs to the Ministry of Education of Cape Verde, but I am living there with my roommate, Brittany, and we have spent the past three days since we have arrived runnin around trying to buy everything we will need in order to actually live there. For now we are staying in a hotel, but are eager to move in (we´re shooting for this afternoon).
I am totally in awe of how beautiful our village, the people of our village and the view from our house is. We may well live in the greenest spot of Cape Verde and from our roof in one direction we can see the ocean and in the other we can see the mountains. It´s like my ideal lifestyle (falta snowboarding... i will miss snowboarding). Despite the lack of snow, this place in amazing. Also, the people are incredibly nice and welcoming. We have already made many friends in our village and have been adopted by a wonderful family that has helped soooo much to get us set up with our furniture and everything else that we need to be living in our house.
Everything is peaceful and ideal right now, but we begin work next week. All of next week we will be going to meetings to prep for the school year, prepare lesson plans and become overwhelmed by the amount of Portuguese that we don´t understand. Then, the week after that we begin teaching. Crazy to think of huh? If you told me two years ago that I would be teaching in Cape Verde in two years I would have laughed at you, but here I am, ready for the adventure to begin. I forsee many challenges, but I also forsee equally a many (if not more) rewards. If nothing else, when I get stressed I am in possibly one of the most beautiful places in the world, so I´m pretty sure I will be able to find some way to unwind.
For now, it is time to finish buying things so that we can finally move in. Hopefully I will get into a weekly schedule of checking email once we are settled in and have something resembling a routine. I also have a ton of pictures that I am dying to post, so with time....
Thinking of you all (and you know you wish you were here!!) :o)

Callie,
You're probably well into the thck of teaching by now. I hope you're loving it. I noticed that someone put one of your letters in the dept. office - I'm eager to read it. And... eager to see pictures!
Hope all is well,
Marlowe
